Bruising occurs when capillaries (small blood vessels) rupture and blood leaks out causing discoloration of underlying tissue. Bruises are usually caused as a result of falls or bumping into objects. Being overweight, anemic or pre-menstrual can make a person more susceptible to bruising. Anyone who suffers frequent bruising without an apparent cause should seek professional advice. Diet and Lifestyle Consume a well-balanced diet with plenty of fresh fruit, vegetables and fibre. Avoid saturated fats. Where possible try to give up smoking as this depletes the body of vitamin C, which is essential for skin health. |
